The performing arts are going through a suspended time, “separated” from their audience.

A long and painful waiting, which emerges in “Lascia ch’io…” (Let me..), a video-installation, co-produced by Fondazione I Teatri Reggio Emilia and Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto, available from 4 to 8 December 2020 on a screen placed in a window overlooking Piazza del Monte in Reggio Emilia.

“Lascia ch’io…”, concept and direction by choreographer Diego Tortelli in collaboration with Carlo Cerri, with the dancers of Aterballetto, was created during the lockdown at the Teatro Municipale Valli.

A tableau in motion from infinite times, as infinite seems the expectation to be able to return to enjoy art live, to participate together, in the same place, in the artistic moment.

The video, made by filmmaker Valeria Civardi, tells of a deserted Teatro Municipale Valli, in which the dancers perform a flow of micro gestures, of a storm on stage between order and disorder, between harmony and chaos.

The end of the video, freeing, will be discovered through a QR-code, which will allow each passer-by to connect directly with their mobile phone when the live show, finally, can drop that veil that separates them from their audience. A poetic ending that tells in its beauty also the suffering of an imposed waiting.

Really hoping that, in reality, this will happen as soon as possible.

“I Teatri and Aterballetto, with this small action – Paolo Cantù, director of I Teatri, and Gigi Cristoforetti, director of Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto – want to give a sign of presence and closeness to the city. Like all the theatres and dance companies in Europe, we want to say to the whole sector and to the public: we are closed but not stopped, we have waited with you and now we are ready to welcome you again…”.

Some excerpts from the video of Piazza del Monte will also be online from 4 to 8 December on the websites of Teatri and Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto and, from 9 December, also the final scene of the creation.
