HOLE IN SPACE
“In 1980, artists Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz (K&S) created a "Hole in Space"
by linking bigger-than-life displays in New York and LA with a satellite feed. It was the mother of all video chats.
They showed that size and bandwidth matter in communicating presence and emotion.”

The artists Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz, who in 1980 connected two bigger-than-life displays in New York and LA with a satellite feed and thus created a public communication sculpture, a "hole in space" so to speak, inspired the choreographer Diego Tortelli and his team to develop a new creation almost entirely online. Six dancers from Munich, Berlin and Milan, a performer from Berlin, a videographer from Munich and a London-based composer and drummer meet with Tortelli exclusively via one-on-one video chats during the production phase, only to put all these artistic puzzle pieces together on the day before the premiere. They use all the possibilities of the online world to overcome the spatial and physical distance that currently determines our lives, in order to then celebrate the first live moment of coming together in all its spontaneity and elation.
